Sometimes Maintenance is Progress
Life is bittersweet and complex. Not every day will be your finest moment. You will not win each battle. You will struggle, fail and have to regroup. Somedays, the bitterness of loss feels overwhelming. Somedays, your anxiety is sky rocketing. Sometimes, you battle depression and anger without an identifiable trigger. Sometimes, you will have little insight to your feelings and behaviors but may feel guilt or shame anyway. Sometimes, being human is almost too much to manage. On these days, it is important to acknowledge that making it through the day is a great accomplishment. Maintaining daily activities like showering, eating and getting out of bed are progress. Give yourself a break on these days. Take care of yourself with a warm shower, kind words, a distracting activity, talk to a friend and take a nap. On these days, get through it. Period.
