Jennifer is an Independent Contractor providing clinical services for Northern Star Counseling.

Jennifer Simpson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker that has spent the last 12 years working with youth and families at the community mental health center. In 2007 she participated in a state sponsored 2 year program to learn to assess and treat children from birth to 5 years old. Jennifer co created and facilitated a therapeutic playgroup that included parents and children ages 3-5 years . The group was created to help children and parents build relationship through play and also provide parents with resources on how to manage tantrums or other behavioral concerns. This group was very successful and Jennifer was able to help present the structure and theory behind the group at the Wyoming Association for Play Therapy conference to help other clinicians around the state develop a similar groups. Since that time, Jennifer has worked primary with early childhood using a relationship based approach. She believes in working with the family system and often uses filial play therapy, a technique to teach parents play therapy skills. Jennifer also has experience working with mothers dealing with post partum depression or other anxiety that occurs during pregnancy or after the birth of a new baby. She has provided mental health consultation to other community agencies including Head Start and Stride. Jennifer is also certified in level I and II EMDR and has found success using this approach with children that have experienced trauma. Jennifer is a strong believer in the human animal bond and has been working with a therapy dog, Ava, for the last 7 years. She is a Cheyenne native that cares about the community and wants to make a positive difference in the lives of children.
